Rhetoric (B)log consists of the efforts of one of BYU's English 150 classes to analyze the rhetoric of the world around them and to develop and contribute their own messages. Rhetoric--arguments, messages, and assumptions that change the way we think and feel--is all around us, permeating media, our interactions with others, public occasions, and any act of communication.

Posting My Editorial
I posted my editorial on Facebook, and realized a few things about how I really felt. First off, I didn't really want my friends to see what I had written because they are mostly against me. I was kind of embarrassed to post my editorial. Also, it kind of made me feel self conscious; the whole entire Facebook world was able to read my editorial! It was pretty intimidating. I think I was so self conscious because I know I can do a better job, I wasn't incredibly pleased with my final outcome. I haven't gotten any comments yet, but hopefully I will get some good advice from friends.
Have you seen the new "I like this" feature on Facebook? Posting off-line certainly doesn't give you feedback so directly...
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't be embarrased to publish your editorial if it is really how you feel.
ReplyDeleteWho knows, maybe having people shoot ideas at you that are in opposition to your paper will help you strengthen your argument. Regardless of how eloquent your paper is, what really matters is that you truly believe what you wrote and it sounds like you do.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is really intimidating to have others read your work and critique it. I think it is important to do that though because then you can get a feel for how your audience really feels about your issue.
ReplyDeletePosting your writing online can be difficult, but I think you can get a ton out of it. It really allows you to see the strengths and weaknesses in your writing that will help out on your future papers.
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem, I didn't want to post it on Facebook, but decided that would the easiest thing to do. I also don't like the fact of people reading my paper since I'm not a professional and never will be.
