Welcome To The Caribbean

Earlier this week, Obama caused a stir by choosing one of the top anti-piracy lawyers to be the third-in-command in the Justice department, leading to a renewed stir about DRM (Digital Rights Management - the technology used to limit the spread of illegal music through the internet). The New York Times jumped in to praise Apple's recent switch away from such restrictions. Considering "free music" is regarded as a more liberal opinion, it's not just surprizing that a corporation like Apple freed up it's music, it's also surprizing that Obama chose a hard-core and very unpopular anti-piracy lawyer for such a high post. All in the same week! To make the situation more surprizing, the executive at Apple who was leading the anti-DRM recently put his future with the company in serious question.

It seems to me that individual music downloaders and voters, and massive recording corporations would have had some interesting priorities to weigh if they had known about this before the election. As a computer user who frequently finds DRM stopping me from doing things I'm supposed to be able to do, I'm jumping on the bandwagon myself. Go Apple!
