III. Conclusion
A. Summarize paper
B. Restate thesis
2 + 2 is the same but you must teach it differently
Talk about how a teacher needs to teach different subjects differently based on the nationality, sex, age, and other numerous things that differ between individuals. In this paper I will focus on the nationality particular American and Japanese.
Thesis
Based on nationality you need to teach differently, but even when a classroom is full of multiple nationalities you still need to alter you teaching style.
Focus #1
Talk about the different styles of teaching in America and how this styles have fared on the test scores.
Focus #2
Just like the first focus but for Japan
Focus #3
Explain some of the different statistics about the average classroom in America.
Focus #4
Tie focus #1 and #2 together and explain the need to alter your style even when you have a classroom that has more than one nationality.
Conclusion
Wrap up paper and tie it all back to my thesis.
Sweatshop Labor Outline
Thesis:
Although there are many problems in abandoning sweatshops labor, something still needs to be done about the issue of exploitation of rights. We have a moral responsibility to look out for the welfare of others and as such sweatshop labor needs to make small improvements and be placed under regulation.
Intro:
-Tell a story about a sweatshop laborer…explain how they are exploited/abused/not paid
-From that story define what it means to be a “sweatshop” so the reader will now what exactly is being discussed
-From that definition show that there are many people in the United States (mostly undocumented immigrants) that work under sweatshop conditions
-include story about workers in El Monte
-Explain how this is a “moral” or “ethical” issue and what responsibilities we have to regulate it so that rights are not being violated
Body:
-Foreign labor issue
-their exploitation by multinational companies
-give stories, facts, statistics
- make sure to connect this with being an ethical issue
-the problems associated with dissolving sweatshops overseas entirely
- failed attempts…..what DIDN’T work
- how third world families often rely on this type of work (it is better than none at all
- how doing so could affect price and production costs for companies
-What could possibly work…suggestions for change/improvement
- Success stories such as Nike, Adidas, and Levi Strauss
- Show how a drastic change is not often the answer, or even a plausible solution, but that small improvements can make a big difference
- Maybe include chart showing how paying a little bit more won’t increase retail and production costs drastically
-quote about most adults who would rather pay one dollar extra on a $20 shirt if they knew that it was produced under decent conditions
- Domestic labor issue
-Make sure readers realize that many immigrants work under the same conditions in the United States itself
-Connect to idea that if we have a moral responsibility to those in other country we surely have a moral responsibility to those in our own country
-Talk about the conditions in sweatshops in LA
-Give story of Latino woman and her boss
-Stories/facts of physical impairments due to the repetitive tasks required of workers in the garment industry
-Companies/Areas that are most responsible for this
-Kathy Lee Gifford Scandal and President’s remarks
-Show how even though the said something would be done, nothing has changed
-Talk about the possibilities for change within the United States…this is possibly greater because it is something that our government actually can have control over
-Suggestions for improvement from “Preventing Disorders Amongst…”
Conclusion:
-Restate that there is labor exploitation both overseas and within the United States itself
-Reaffirm that this is an ethical issue and that as such something needs to be done
-Secede that there are many problems associated with dissolving the industry entrirely
Torture Outline
I will talk about what some people view as the benefits of torture, and what some people view as the downfalls. I will then state my point that torture is a violation of basic human rights. I can include this quote somewhere: “Torture -- the intentional infliction of severe mental or physical pain or suffering -- is a violation of the most basic of all human rights.”
-- Robert Alan.
BODY:
1. I will talk about the kind of torture I want to discuss, which is torture to gain important information from someone. I will list off some methods that are used. I will also talk about how effective it is, and how reliable the information can be or not be.
2. I will talk about where in the world other than the U.S. torture is severe, and how it is being handled in other countries such as Egypt, North Korea, China, and Uzbekistan. Also, I will deal with the question if these foreign leaders who practice this should be subject to arrest.
3. I will bring up the question: is torture happening in the U.S.? I will then explain what our laws are about torture as of now.
4. What is being done now to prevent the inhumane treatment of people? For one thing, President Obama just closed Guantanamo Bay. This, and other things are being done to stop torture as of now.
5. I will state my stance on the issue, and give a few personal examples of people that I know who have experienced this, and how no human being should ever have to go through this.
CONCLUSION:
I will restate my argument, and restate the pros and cons of torture. I will then give my opinion, and a closing statement.
Sex Slavery
Although we may not be directly faced with it everday, sex slavery is all around us and is taking the lives of young women and men everywhere. It leads to not only sexual exploitation, but the spread of disease, violence, and drug use. Through these aspects it is obvious that sex slavery has a destructing effect on society and is hurting both those directly and indirectly involved. Many have stated that sex slavery is a choice and that these women knowingly put themselves in these situations, however, many innocent young women are forced into sex slavery against their will and although there are those that participate in it for their own pleasure, too many of the innocent are effected to let it continue. Something must be done to stop this, whether it is through education, or penalization to those involved, we as a people can take a stand and help the innocent.
Body:
I plan to use my first few paragraphs to explain the different effects that sex slavery has: For one, many other crimes are directly connected with sex slavery. (Drugs, violence, stealing, etc) Each of these need to be addressed in order to help the reader understand how this is effecting society. I also want to explain how oblivious we are as a society, and how many of these things are going on right under our own nose. I have many facts and details to explain where these things are happening, who is using these services, and how many young girls are effected (ages and such). I believe that this will help to support my thesis by stating direct facts and helping the reader to see the bigger picture of how this is effecting society as a whole. (I have many statistics, but to include them all would take up a lot of room. I will provide statistics on how old many of these girls are, the social environments that they come from, why they are affected, the people who are involved ( a.k.a pimps, johns) and what social environment they come from... I have statistics for all of these things. :) )
In my following paragraphs I plan to use real accounts from girls that have been forced (both in outside and inside the U.S) to be sex slaves. I have watched many episodes and different documentaries on women who have been effected and I know that it has helped educate me about this issue and I believe that this will also help to educate my reader. It gives details as to what these women went through, and the different criminal acts that they were forced to be apart of.
I also want to provide information about what this is doing to the girls themselves, and the destruction that they endure both physically and mentally. This is important to understand because these women have survived a significant distrubing event and many times they have been so damaged that they take their own lives or participate in criminal behavior because they have no way out. This supports my thesis because it shows that many times these women cannot be a functional part of society because they have been so disturbed, and need at least to be counseled to help them through this terrible event.
Conclusion:
In my conclusion I plan to provide ways how that this can be stopped. (E.x education, punishment for those involved, punsihing those who are found accountable for hurting these young women, punish the johns, etc.) I would also like to give a few more facts and finally to adress that if we become educated and take a stand to help these women, we can make a difference to both those directly involved, and our entire society.
Obesity as a Global Threat
The severity of obesity is a problem that not only the United States faces, but one that the globe faces. Countries across the globe are experiencing greater trends in obesity. This appearance of obesity can be contributed to the societal changes these countries are undergoing, mainly the United States' influence with fast food restaurants and lifestyle. Acknowledging the issue at hand, our country, as well as other countries across the globe, can make changes to lessen the amount of obesity seen and encourage a healthier lifestyle.
Intro
· Break up into 2 paragraphs

Privatization vs Nationalization
Governments should not implement DNS-SEC on
public infrastructure. Instead, individual
private organizations should implement their
own choices of security systems on their
networks.
Outline:
-Background
-What is DNS-SEC?
-DNS allows you to refer to a computer or
network by name, like "byu.edu" instead
of a numerical address
-DNS makes the internet easier to use
-Ease of use is what made the internet
popular
-The internet is now the backbone of
commerce and communication
-DNS has security holes; was designed in
a more trusting time
-Attacks on DNS infrastructure
-Attacks on individual businesses
-DNS-SEC is intended to fix those
problems
-Introduction
-DNS-SEC has problems of its own
-Network delays
-Can still be hacked
-Governments are in the process of adopting
DNS-SEC
-Government should stay out of it, private
organizations should make individual choices
-The internet has always been community based
-"Requests For Comments" are released instead
of enforced standards
-Community participation leads to more
flexible, more robust solutions
-DNS-SEC was released as a series of
RFC's
-Implementation is optional - you can do
things however you want
-The flexibility of the internet and private
innovations led to the internet's growth
-The most popular products used on the
web are run by communities and
corporations
-Things like VoIP, webcams, etc... exist
and were invented because of flexibility
-The government often makes poor decisions
when they're isolated from professionals
-Most professionals favor DNS-SEC
adoption, but how the government runs it
is in question
-example: A state legislature tried
passing a bill to change the value of PI
-Privacy concerns regarding government control of
DNS
-The same debate as privatization vs.
nationalization
-Government implementation of DNS-SEC could
lead to censorship like in China and
Australia
-Economic and social concerns
-Government control could lead to security
breaches
-"Deep-packet sniffing" uncovered in the
UK - the government controlled
infrastructure and abused it
-DNS-SEC isn't the right solution everywhere
-DNS-SEC causes an increase in internet
traffic and would slow down individual
requests
-Technology shouldn't get in the way of
the people it's supposed to help, even
if it is "secure"
-Individual implementations allow flexibility
and increased security
-DNS-SEC doesn't even fix all the problems
-All the old attacks still work, they're
just harder
-People will always find a way around
some measure
-The key is diversity
Film outline
1. I will begin with giving personal experience of the perceptions of America/American's outside of the US based on what people view in movies produced here.
2. The US is the greatest consumer of movies with 1.48 billion tickets sold in 2001.
3. Even though many countries around the world view American movies, these should not be required to compromise their creative voice in order to be more globally acceptable.
Body:
1. I will begin by comparing film industries and consumption of films from around the world. US v. Western Europe, US vs. Bollywood, and the Latin American Film Industries. I will talk about the economic and cultural impact on India and Latin America as well. The majority of films viewed around the world are from the US.
2. From that I will talk about how many perceptions from within movies have affected people around the world. i.e. Germans in WWII movies (Oscar Schindler is non-stereotypical). Anorexia in Fiji because of american media. "How the movies made a President" perceptions of African Americans and their roles as leaders prepared the national public for a black president.
3. An example of how globalization is affecting the way films are made within the US. GI Joe no longer "General Issue"
4. The Barry Jenkin's interview where the point of view of a filmmaker is presented. The effect films can have on individuals and the "American experience as a global commodity."
5. How film and media sources can be used to change the perception of reality. i.e. the use of propaganda films by Hitler and, within our own country, the Iraq war.
Conclusion:
My own view is that filmmakers should be respectful to not misrepresent something but at the same time not change their own ideals to appease the world because it might not be their intended audience. Though I concede that films produced can have damaging effects on the perceptions of cultures and/or people, I still maintain that it is the responsibility of the audience to reach their own conclusions. For example, any source of media, be it film, television, newspaper, etc. will have an argument presented within and the audience should be as aware of it within movies as they are with opinion editorials. Although some might object that movies are viewed as an escape and not a venue for public discourse, I reply that even the movies that are for “fun” have a message within that the director wants the audience to leave with. This issue is important because movies are viewed around the world and the effects of film on cultures is real, but it is the individuals, not the films, that make the change.
Inadequate Fathering
Introduction:
- Talk about the debate going on; if the presence of a father makes a difference or not. Give a little background about the families in the United States and the families in Japan. Talk about the studies being done and what they say in general.
- Be sure to say the issue is whether the outcomes are enough evidence to convince fathers to step up and be more active in their children’s lives or not. Talk about how most fathers do not spend more time with their children based on the information.
- Thesis - With the amount of information available to show the positive effects of father involvement, Japanese fathers should be motivated to get to the same level of involvement that the American fathers are on.
Body:
- Give the facts: the amount of time Japanese and American fathers spend with their children. Compare them to show the gap between these two countries. Son weekend: Japan 1.27 hours, America 2.02; son weekday: Japan 0.33, America 1; Daughter weekend: Japan 1.36, America 1.4; daughter weekday: Japan 0.4, America 0.5.
- Build and develop the evidence of the importance of fathers. Sixty percent of convicted rapists, 72 percent of teen murderers, and 70 percent of long-term prison inmates are males who grew up without fathers. "Fathers make irreplaceable contributers to the well-being of their children" I will probably split this up into a few paragraphs and really talk about the research done and the results found.
- I will then talk about how these studies should motivate fathers to spend more time with their children. Talk about how Japanese fathers have farther to go in this area. Compare their improvements to the improvements of the American fathers. Show how ridiculous fathers are who know this information and still don't spend time with children.
- Talk about the different fathering/parenting styles and how they effect the children. Specific examples about different types and how much involvement each required. Authoritative, authoritarian, permissive... This section will provide ways for the fathers to become more involved in the childrens lives. Solutions and other motivations.
Conclusion:
- Talk about how our society shows the father as being unimportant or stupid and that they do not help the family. This is relevent to today. All fathers need to pay attention to the actual information there is given and change their fathering styles. Review major findings and how it should change how fathers parent. After all, the fathers have to decide to change.

Coastline Outline
1. For my intro I was thinking about telling a story of the effects shoreline development is having on a local beach in San Clemente California. This would give the reader a firsthand view of the disaster shoreline development is having on the environment.
2. Following the story I’ll continue on with a Sea Pollution fact, “In fact over 80% of all marine pollution comes from land-based activities and many pollutants are deposited in estuaries and coastal waters. This will give the readers a realization the size of pollution given from shoreline development.
3. Thesis: By limiting shoreline development, coastlines across the globe will be cleaner and more sanitary for marine and human life.
Body:
1. In this paragraph I plan to talk about the main causes of pollution in the ocean. I’ll give quotes such as one from Water Pollution, stating “One of the reasons that the water pollution problem is so severe is that it is not actually illegal to dump pollutants into water bodies.” Giving people an idea of causes of pollution gives them realization of how this problem is coming to pass.
2. Following this paragraph I will introduce the growth of development on coastlines throughout the globe with the source that I have not come across yet with my new narrowed topic. I would like it to be on the borderlines of coastal developments across rich soiled ecosystem shores.
3. Spinning off that, I want to tie the coastal development to problems that come from building civilization on strong ecosystem beaches. An example would be from Surfers against sewage, “Across the world, about half of all sewage is dumped into water bodies in its original form. No efforts are made to disinfect the sewage or to remove especially harmful pollutants.”
4. By talking about sewage, I also want to add the problems of waste being dumped into the ocean with harmful chemicals that for some reason don’t seem to be hold against by any government. In Sea Pollution, “Black tar-like oil is sometimes washed onto beaches not only causing a nuisance to holidaymakers but also killing many sea-birds. The oil mainly comes from tankers which wash out their holds while out at sea to save time in port.”
5. After showing all the different types of pollution development causes. I want to bring up the factors it has on human’s health. Ocean Pollution Effects on Living Resources and Humans states that bacteria from sewage and chemicals are causing great health issues to human beings across the globe.
6. After talking about human health. I want to consider to the paper the Marine life and how pollution is causes great stresses upon marine populations. “The effect these have on the marine environment depends on the type of pollution, the size of the pollution and where the pollution occurs. Some marine environments and types of marine life are more sensitive than others to pollution. The pollution may damage individual sea creatures or plants, or it may damage whole communities of different living things.” Marine or Ocean Pollution.
7. To finish off my paper I want to talk about environmental groups that are striving to stop ocean pollution across the globe. I haven’t found the right environmentalist group to quote yet, but I want to talk about a group that is having a large influence on the population.
Conclusion:
1. To conclude my paper, I’m going to finish the story I started in the introduction paragraph. From there, I want to sum up the issues of pollution on the coast by development and tie it with the story on the beach in San Clemente. In conclusion I want to influence others to act and support to save coastlines across the globe.
AIDS outline
Thesis: In years past, AIDS was never a big concern for many countries. However at this time, AIDs is becoming more prevalent in more countries. Lack of education and health care systems in developing countries compared to the ample supply here in the United States, provides for one reason as to why it has become such a common disease in developing countries.
Body Paragraphs:
I am going to divide my paper into three main concepts and discuss them.
1. I will convince the audience that this is a problem that is big for the whole world. Not only is it in developing countries, but it has spread throughout the world. I also want to narrow it down it down to a specific country in Africa and compare the rate of AIDS in that country compared to the United States.
2. For the second portion of my paper, I would like to consider all the factors of how AIDS has become a crisis throughout the world. I will specifically talk about the health care and education that a country has and compare that to the health care and education in the United States. I will use quotes from health care professionals and statistics about how much education the country receives about this problem.
3. For my final body paragraph, I will talk about the specifics on how a plan can be made to give better health care and education to particular developing countries. I will discuss plans that professionals have thought of, and programs that are now in place through humanitarian workers and volunteers.
Conclusion: Although AIDS has become an immense problem in particular developing nations, it is important to realize that this disease plagues the whole world. The difference between countries such as the United States and Ethiopia, is the difference in health care and education between the countries. The difference being that Ethiopia lacks these ingredients. Action needs to be taken so that everyone can be aware of the disease, how it is passed, and what they can do to prevent it. There can be steps taken to accomplish this, and it is necessary.
Outsourcing Outline
Intro:
I will talk about one main argument for and against globalization. Mostly relating to the economy.
The last sentence of my intro will be my thesis.
Something to the effect- “Outsourcing is neither inherently good or bad, there are good reasons for it and also reasons why it should be reconsidered.”
Body:
The first few paragraphs will be a brief overview of outsourcing and what exactly we’re talking about in this paper. The next few paragraphs will be the downside. I want them to be first because I want to leave the reader thinking about the benefits. As that is the way I am trying to sway my audience in a nonchalant way.
For my overview I have a few sources I would like to draw information from. The first will be from the article by Mary Cooper. This talks about the program that authorizes visas for workers to come to the US and work. I will also draw on some of the information that I pulled from Wikipedia. I am hoping that these paragraphs present the topic in a way that my readers will be able to understand and begin forming opinions about. I hope to also use some information from an article I found by Bhagwati. It is a pretty general article but it has a lot of interesting statistics.
Now I will begin with the downside of outsourcing. I will use my article by Catherine J. Morrison to show how wages have been affected by outsourcing. I think my audience will be shocked by some of the statistics.
I will use Daniel Drezners article for both sides of my argument. His article addresses both pros and cons so for this section I will use some of his ideas for the downside.
This next article I use is by Feenstra. I will use this one to show how US workers are being payed less and less due to outsourcing. I can then talk about how when we outsource we lay off US workers and they must rely on welfare.
Now I will switch gears and talk about the upside. My opening paragraph for the upside will talk about how really we live in such a competitive world we should know that people will do anything to become rich. That’s what our country was based off of. Capitalism. Hopefully I’ll be able to appeal to some pathos but I’m not sure how well it will go over. I plan on using my strongest arguments near the end.
My first address of the positives will be from an article by Drezner. I will already have used his work but this time I will use his positive aspects on outsourcing. Hopefully my readers will recognize that he looked at both sides of the spectrum as they should.
I think one of the reasons people have such a negative attitude towards outsourcing is they think the only reason for it is economic. I will use an article by Natalia Levina to discuss some other possible reasons that many companies outsource. Maybe this will help my readers understand that it’s not ALL about money.
My strongest argument will be from an article called “Science in America.” This will seal the deal. I will talk about how maybe the reason we outsource is because there are more qualified people out there in the world. No one would argue they want the best doctor or teachers, but when it comes to low skilled jobs everyone has a problem. I will use this very argument to convince that life is a competition so if you don’t want to be outsourced you better work hard.
I’m not sure how my conclusion will sound but I want to re address some of my arguments and present my readers with a question to think about. Maybe present a possible solution. I’m not sure yet.
Nuclear Power Outline
1: For a possible topic sentence, begin very broadly with addressing some prominent fear about nuclear power. This will bring some cordiality into the start of the paper.
2: Next, use a quote from The Political Atom explaining, “Atomic energy will save the world from the greenhouse effects and global climate change. This will help clarify that truly, Nuclear power is a very clean energy source.
3: Thesis: With a large increase of nuclear plants built in the US, the environment will become cleaner and the US will no longer be reliant on offshore supplies such as coal and oil.
II. Body
1. Begin by addressing the main anti-nuclear power concerns: possible leakage and damage to the environment and civilians. Use a quote from, The Great Nuclear Power Debate, The chances of people dying from a nuclear power accident are about the same as being hit by a meteorite—one in 5 billion.” This will help people visualize the reality of a nuclear meltdown.
2. Talk about the great efficiency of nuclear power quoting. Use the quote from Nuclear Hot Streak Continues. “A measure of efficiency topped 90%.” Use more quotes from this article to help illustrate the point about how powerful nuclear energy is. This will show that increased use of this energy source will benefit the US.
3. Next, talk about the Issue of waste nuclear power poses. Use the article written by Lennart Sjoberb, to show the problems and solutions that can be made. Also use the Great Nuclear debate for good information on this topic. Ultimately verify that this waste poses little threat to the world and that it is a lot cleaner than that of oil and coal..
4. Also bring up the issue of psychology with nuclear power. Use the Daniel J. Levi’s article to help inform the reader about the effects and then use Levi’s solutions for such actions. An alternate source could be Mossman’s article on regulations that can make nuclear power even safer, reducing the threat of danger and fear for the public.
5. CQ Researcher on Nuclear power helps illustrate the increase safety of nuclear power by showing in study that the number of accidents and decreased substantially throughout this century. (Use the date from the chart shown.)
6. A final point to address would need to be done to substantially increase nuclear power to make it’s a dominating power source in the US. Use the same CQ Researcher article on nuclear power page 36 to show that all though this will be a slow process the benefits are huge. People must see that this power source will greatly help the US.
7. Lastly talk about that all the fears people have about nuclear waste are out of proportion and that with new regulations and safety precaution fear will be disbanded. Also write about the future benefits including cleaner environment, practically unlimited power supplies and being self reliant from other countries.
III. Conclusion
End by stating that nuclear power has gone through much scrutiny over the past years. Tell that these fears have help make nuclear power safer and easier to regulate. Promise that will large increases in nuclear power, the US will be self sufficient and will not leave such a large carbon footprint on the ozone. With this bonus, electricity will never be worry and the US can begin fixing other problems such as health care and not have to worry so much about the environment and global warming.
Poverty/Technology Revised Thesis + Outline.
Cheap, efficient, and renewable; these are the words that seem to be flying around the most these days. They have proven to be the standard by which the energy and transportation industry have consistently had to measure themselves by. The trifecta standard for making something cheap, renewable and efficient have not only been used in commercial industries, it has also been the drive for many new technological advances. Some are made in the name of science, others in the name of convenience, but for a small village in Africa that received a merry-go-round that produces electricity, the justification for what they received as poverty relief can be described as a combination of both. America in general, has been a force for good in the lives of many who live in impoverished nations. Just as the new age dawns so do the methods and tactics of relieving poverty. If other countries would follow America’s example and involve technology and its advances to help alleviate poverty, technology’s true potential for good would be realized.
Issues Paper Outline
I. Description and examples of technology’s status on alleviating poverty.
a. Thesis, definition, and description of poverty all around the world.
b. Examples of what has been done to aid impoverished nations.
c. What can be done to further the technological frontier on alleviating poverty
