Barbara Ehrenreich, author of The Walmartian Invasion, is far more radical than she appears in that isolated article. During the 2008 presidential campaign, she blogged her support for Obama: "We, perhaps white people especially, look to him for atonement and redemption."
Even to an Obama supporter, calling him the Messiah sounds horrendous! So much of her article is based on similar religious and demagogical rhetoric, that it begs the question: is she joking? Armed with this background during a second reading, she loses all credibility to me in the first paragraph. Her comparison between Dick Cheney's comments and John Kerry's feelings on the subject seems a little more out of place. It's almost like she just threw it in to make this a partisan issue. To her, it's not even about Walmart.

I completely agree. The American people should never look to their president as a savior. Though an important figurehead, we are the true owners and policy makers of our country.
Ehrenreich definately has some radical based views, which make her writings hard to take into account, but she writes with satire which make it a bit interesting.
I noticed the Cheney/Kerry comment to but didn't think much beyond it. It's interesting to know how left she is because it definitely makes you look more objectively at what she wrote. Good find.
