Sea Breeze

I chose the song "Sea Breeze" by Tyrone Wells.  I'm actually listening to it right now.  I really like this song and I'll tell you why.  I think one of the main reasons this song is so endearing is because he uses imagery that many of us can relate to.  Well at least I can growing up in Santa Barbara, the sea breeze has always been a big part of my life.  I like how in this song he compares a girl to the sea breeze.  For me, that strikes a cord.  I can relate and my emotion that I feel about sea breeze is translated to how I feel about the girl he is describing.  Great Song.  The first tool I thought of was imagery.  This appeals to pathos.  The effect on the audience is a sentimental reaction to the lyrics.  The next tool I think that was used was Trustworthiness.  This appeals to ethos.  This man is writing a song about how precious he thinks this girl is.  He is respectful to her and compares her to something beautiful.  The audience wants to believe him and trust him.

She moves like sea breeze swirling around me
the fragrance that she leaves hangs in the air
soft like a whisper she's callin me to her
these eyes have seen the most beautiful dream.

I think that's a good example of how particular rhetoric can apply really well to certain people and not so well to others. I used to live by the beach - but it wasn't a very good one and it stank (as in smell, but sucked in general). To me a "sea breeze" doesn't necessarily bring a charming atmosphere to mind.

I loved the similes used in this song. It brings a much better touch on how you as a listener can feel as the song writer wants you to feel. Without those similes you couldn't fully understand or get a grasp on the song writers purpose.
