Introduction:
- Talk about the debate going on; if the presence of a father makes a difference or not. Give a little background about the families in the United States and the families in Japan. Talk about the studies being done and what they say in general.
- Be sure to say the issue is whether the outcomes are enough evidence to convince fathers to step up and be more active in their children’s lives or not. Talk about how most fathers do not spend more time with their children based on the information.
- Thesis - With the amount of information available to show the positive effects of father involvement, Japanese fathers should be motivated to get to the same level of involvement that the American fathers are on.
Body:
- Give the facts: the amount of time Japanese and American fathers spend with their children. Compare them to show the gap between these two countries. Son weekend: Japan 1.27 hours, America 2.02; son weekday: Japan 0.33, America 1; Daughter weekend: Japan 1.36, America 1.4; daughter weekday: Japan 0.4, America 0.5.
- Build and develop the evidence of the importance of fathers. Sixty percent of convicted rapists, 72 percent of teen murderers, and 70 percent of long-term prison inmates are males who grew up without fathers. "Fathers make irreplaceable contributers to the well-being of their children" I will probably split this up into a few paragraphs and really talk about the research done and the results found.
- I will then talk about how these studies should motivate fathers to spend more time with their children. Talk about how Japanese fathers have farther to go in this area. Compare their improvements to the improvements of the American fathers. Show how ridiculous fathers are who know this information and still don't spend time with children.
- Talk about the different fathering/parenting styles and how they effect the children. Specific examples about different types and how much involvement each required. Authoritative, authoritarian, permissive... This section will provide ways for the fathers to become more involved in the childrens lives. Solutions and other motivations.
Conclusion:
- Talk about how our society shows the father as being unimportant or stupid and that they do not help the family. This is relevent to today. All fathers need to pay attention to the actual information there is given and change their fathering styles. Review major findings and how it should change how fathers parent. After all, the fathers have to decide to change.

I liked your introduction paragraphs idea. Introducing the topic seems to be a strong part of your paper. I was kind of confused on the thesis, but after reading it made more since. Your information is extremely well lookedf into from what I can see. Maybe creating different paragraphs instead of putting two different parts in one parapraph. Overall it seems like you can make a very persuasive paper.
I definately think that I need to be more specific about the information I put into each paragraph. Right now I have divided my paper into ideas but not specifically into paragraphs. I also think I need to build my argument between Japan and the United States more. I need to develop my ideas more so that I ca be convincing enough in my paper.
