Nuclear Power Outline

I. Intro

1: For a possible topic sentence, begin very broadly with addressing some prominent fear about nuclear power. This will bring some cordiality into the start of the paper.

2: Next, use a quote from The Political Atom explaining, “Atomic energy will save the world from the greenhouse effects and global climate change. This will help clarify that truly, Nuclear power is a very clean energy source.

3: Thesis: With a large increase of nuclear plants built in the US, the environment will become cleaner and the US will no longer be reliant on offshore supplies such as coal and oil.

II. Body

1. Begin by addressing the main anti-nuclear power concerns: possible leakage and damage to the environment and civilians. Use a quote from, The Great Nuclear Power Debate, The chances of people dying from a nuclear power accident are about the same as being hit by a meteorite—one in 5 billion.” This will help people visualize the reality of a nuclear meltdown.

2. Talk about the great efficiency of nuclear power quoting. Use the quote from Nuclear Hot Streak Continues. “A measure of efficiency topped 90%.” Use more quotes from this article to help illustrate the point about how powerful nuclear energy is. This will show that increased use of this energy source will benefit the US.

3. Next, talk about the Issue of waste nuclear power poses. Use the article written by Lennart Sjoberb, to show the problems and solutions that can be made. Also use the Great Nuclear debate for good information on this topic. Ultimately verify that this waste poses little threat to the world and that it is a lot cleaner than that of oil and coal..

4. Also bring up the issue of psychology with nuclear power. Use the Daniel J. Levi’s article to help inform the reader about the effects and then use Levi’s solutions for such actions. An alternate source could be Mossman’s article on regulations that can make nuclear power even safer, reducing the threat of danger and fear for the public.

5. CQ Researcher on Nuclear power helps illustrate the increase safety of nuclear power by showing in study that the number of accidents and decreased substantially throughout this century. (Use the date from the chart shown.)

6. A final point to address would need to be done to substantially increase nuclear power to make it’s a dominating power source in the US. Use the same CQ Researcher article on nuclear power page 36 to show that all though this will be a slow process the benefits are huge. People must see that this power source will greatly help the US.

7. Lastly talk about that all the fears people have about nuclear waste are out of proportion and that with new regulations and safety precaution fear will be disbanded. Also write about the future benefits including cleaner environment, practically unlimited power supplies and being self reliant from other countries.

III. Conclusion

End by stating that nuclear power has gone through much scrutiny over the past years. Tell that these fears have help make nuclear power safer and easier to regulate. Promise that will large increases in nuclear power, the US will be self sufficient and will not leave such a large carbon footprint on the ozone. With this bonus, electricity will never be worry and the US can begin fixing other problems such as health care and not have to worry so much about the environment and global warming.

I really like how many quotes you included, they were very helpful to the overall meaning and provided depth.
One thing that I believe would help is if you gave specific regions into which you are going to put the information. Instead of writing one two three maybe combine some of the ideas and put it under paragraph. I also think it would help if you provided some statistics to support your thesis. I think you have great ideas here and I can't wait to see how you pull it alltogether in your final paper! :)

I think that i will need to add more quotes and statistics about my thesis. I have lots of information on the differing opinions of nuclear power, however i really don't have any articles about nuclear increases.

With this, then my paper will be really good and i will have a credible paper.
