My topic is how the current poverty line is inadequate for the needs of an individual. Every source points to the fact that the United States has a relatively high percentage of people living below the poverty line when compared to other developing countries. The debate is on how the poverty line should be derived and how the problem of poverty should be solved.
1. What basic needs must each individual possess: Chambers, Economic Opportunity and Poverty in America Hearing before the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support of the Committee on Ways and Means, Rank, Royce, Spriggs.
2. Arguments on the best way to derive a poverty threshold: “The 2009 HHS Poverty Guidelines,” Glennerster.
3. Solutions to the problem: Brady, “Experts Try to make Sense of U.S. Poverty Rates,” Shatzkin.
4. America’s war on world poverty: Edward, Krueger, Poverty and Inequality in the Americas the Unaddressed Problem : Hearing before the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, House of Representatives, One Hundred Tenth Congress, First Session, March 28, 200.

1) It appears that you are going to argue that the poverty line needs to be increased so that more people fall under it, get help, and are able to support themselves and their families.
2) It would be good to include information about the current poverty line and how much the average lower 10% (or something like that) of our country makes to try and establish a need to increase the line.
From these viewpoints, I believe that you will be arguing that the poverty line is too high in the United States and that too many people live below that line. It sounds like you will also argue about solutions to the problem
