Hope
I really enjoyed President Obama's speech and I think he did an incredible job. He brought hope to America. He really let our country know that we can make it through the tough times. I liked how Obama let America know that as a country we have what it takes to fix our problems and this is seen through the past. He brings hope by showing how far this country has come and how far the people have come. One thing thatstood out to me was when President Obama said,"Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends - hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history." This encourages our country that we have what it takes to make progress and gives faith that we will battle this. I think bringing up the progress of the past brings hope to this country and shows us how we can be united and a change will be made.

I agree with you on this one. I like how he took the past experiences, didn't dwell on them, but rather projected them into the future and how we will learn from the past to make the future better.
I really liked that quote as well, it brings forth the fact that we can move on and that not all is lost. There is another quote I have read that talks about how those that don't remember history will be those who have to repeat it. I found this interesting because it is true, if we look at the pain and anguish that our ancestors went through to be here we have to realize that we too are going to have to stand up in these perils times and show that we can and will regain our strength and become a strong nation again.
That quote was excellent. It was one of my favorites as well. I liked it a lot because he just told us how it is. Yes we have new challenges and instruments, but throughout our history we have consistently held our American values and that is comforting to many people.
I definately liked that quote. The fact that he mentioned our ancestors and the history of our country helps convince Americans that we can learn from them and improve our country.
