I take my kids to school, I don't lose my temper, it's my only rule, I keep it cool.

I thought the speech was given very well. He definitely was aiming for the emotional aspect, or pathos, of inspiring us as a nation. This technique worked on me, I felt myself getting pumped up and feeling patriotic as he mentioned Presidents of old. It almost seemed like poetry when he was giving it.

I was really shocked to hear him say the following:

"On this day we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."

WOW. Bush was sitting right there the whole time too, just listening to Obama slaughter his political ways. This was a very bold statement, and I am unsure if it can be reached. It is pretty general, but essentially he is still promising us to keep his word, and to basically reform politics. A hard promise to come by, but I sure hope he can pull it off.

Obama spurs new feelings for America that haven't been felt in a long time. He inspires hope and confidence with his powerful voice, and promises us change. I am not saying all of this will come true, but hope is a good thing to have, I believe.

I like your analysis and like many people who heard this speech agree with your point of view. I think you are definitely right that President Obama was focusing almost entirely on getting America's emotional support. Ya he talked about some issues and used some logos but let's be honest if you don't like the guy none of that matters. I think he is an incredible speaker.

I don't know as though Obama was trying to belittle President Bush but rather his inability to make any progress with a divided congress. He definitely inspires people in a way that hasn't been done in many years.

I totally loved that line, about him sleeping Bush's politics in the face. I didn't think Bush did the worse job ever but that was a low blow on world television.

I do think that this speech gave many americans hope but for me, I generally don't get much hope just from a speech. He didn't have many plans to go along with what he hopes to change so I don't feel very hopeful. When things start to change then I will have hope.

I agree that Obama's statement about rectifying false promises was quite bold. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the uniform promise of politicians. I don't think there is any doubt that he will work his hardest, but sometimes things just don't work out the way you plan.

I like how Obama was so hopeful in his speech. I think at this time, what a lot of Americans need, is hope. Hopefully he will come through.
