Helaman 5:12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.
This verse single handedly brought me back into the church. The analogy of building your foundation upon a rock is like building my life around the teachings of the gospel. So when the winds and tribulations of life come upon you, you be steadfast in the lord. This analogy doesn’t only apply to the sons of Helaman, but for these latter-days and generations to come. Remembering who you are and where you come from ties into this verse. When you remember who you are and the heritage you come from a sense of responsibility is assigned. By keeping the gospel close to your life, strong as a rock, you can fend off temptations of all kinds. A strong foundation is the beginning step for eternal life.

You nailed that one. I've never heard it explained better. This analogy couldn't be any more clear in terms of what it is trying to accomplish: Christ is a rock and something we MUST build our lives around if we wish to stay faithful and avoid temptation.
You know I have to admit, I am very impressed. I never would have taken you to be the kind of guy to give an analysis like this and I am very touched by your words. I really enjoyed reading the scripture you chose and your analysis. I could tell that you are very passionate about this scripture and that it has had a large impact on your life. I have no doubts that you will make a great missionary Aaron, no matter where you go. :)
I also agree with Scott... I have to admit that I have never heard this scripture explained better. Good job.
