Film Industry

My topic is on the globalization of the film industry and the perceptions and stereotypes caused by it. Many agree that the subjects presented in the movies have effects on the way people view their own lives and current situation versus what is presented on the screen.

1. The film industry in the US is very large and produces many films that are viewed throughout the world which some consider to be culturally imperialistic. (Cowen, Encyclopedia Britanica)

2. Because the film industry is on a global scale, the movies produced should be more politically correct and fair in representing many cultures from around the world. (Donaldson-Evans)

3. Perceptions of people are affected by what is presented in the movies. (Carmichael, Clark, Crawford)

4. The film industry can have a big effect on politics and the publics ideals and/or desires. (Dargis, Ekanayake)

These four different view points seem to have a common theme to me. I think that this paper will be about the effect American Film has on other countries. In particular, in what ways does the US influence other countries based off of our films.

It seems to me that you're going to argue that films have a very big impact on political and social aspects of global interaction, and that these aspects ought to be considered by film makers.

I think to argue this you'll have to show opinions from around the world that are provably false, but caused by a movie. For one side of it you'll just need statements, because statements themselves show the effect - they don't need to be reliable sources. But then to prove that this misconception came from the media, you'll have to show that in reality it is false.

I think that people might argue that movies are imaginative and most people around the world support that Hollywood is in fact not realistic. If you have facts and statistics to support your opinion this paper will be absolutely successful.

I think you are likely to argue that the film industry definitely effects the way people view their own lives. The information you provide discusses how big of an impact the US film industry has in the world. I think you will need have to provide scientific evidence of this happening to help overcome many of the other viewpoints. I think that you could also use stats on the amount of money the film industry makes to help prove your point.

It seems like that Lance plans on arguing that the United States Film Association should pay more attention to how they represent the different cultures found in the movies. They should do this because there are many people out there that see the US from a movies prospective.

I think you are likely to argue that the film industry misrepresents cultures worldwide and effects peoples viewpoints.
