Outsourcing Outline

Intro:  

I will talk about one main argument for and against globalization.  Mostly relating to the economy.

The last sentence of my intro will be my thesis.

Something to the effect- “Outsourcing is neither inherently good or bad, there are good reasons for it and also reasons why it should be reconsidered.”

Body:

The first few paragraphs will be a brief overview of outsourcing and what exactly we’re talking about in this paper.  The next few paragraphs will be the downside.  I want them to be first because I want to leave the reader thinking about the benefits.  As that is the way I am trying to sway my audience in a nonchalant way.

For my overview I have a few sources I would like to draw information from.  The first will be from the article by Mary Cooper.  This talks about the program that authorizes visas for workers to come to the US and work.  I will also draw on some of the information that I pulled from Wikipedia.  I am hoping that these paragraphs present the topic in a way that my readers will be able to understand and begin forming opinions about.  I hope to also use some information from an article I found by Bhagwati.  It is a pretty general article but it has a lot of interesting statistics.

Now I will begin with the downside of outsourcing.  I will use my article by Catherine J. Morrison to show how wages have been affected by outsourcing.  I think my audience will be shocked by some of the statistics.

I will use Daniel Drezners article for both sides of my argument.  His article addresses both pros and cons so for this section I will use some of his ideas for the downside.  

This next article I use is by Feenstra.  I will use this one to show how US workers are being payed less and less due to outsourcing.  I can then talk about how when we outsource we lay off US workers and they must rely on welfare.

Now I will switch gears and talk about the upside.  My opening paragraph for the upside will talk about how really we live in such a competitive world we should know that people will do anything to become rich.  That’s what our country was based off of.  Capitalism.  Hopefully I’ll be able to appeal to some pathos but I’m not sure how well it will go over.  I plan on using my strongest arguments near the end.

My first address of the positives will be from an article by Drezner.  I will already have used his work but this time I will use his positive aspects on outsourcing.  Hopefully my readers will recognize that he looked at both sides of the spectrum as they should.

I think one of the reasons people have such a negative attitude towards outsourcing is they think the only reason for it is economic.  I will use an article by Natalia Levina to discuss some other possible reasons that many companies outsource.  Maybe this will help my readers understand that it’s not ALL about money.  

My strongest argument will be from an article called “Science in America.”  This will seal the deal.  I will talk about how maybe the reason we outsource is because there are more qualified people out there in the world.  No one would argue they want the best doctor or teachers, but when it comes to low skilled jobs everyone has a problem.  I will use this very argument to convince that life is a competition so if you don’t want to be outsourced you better work hard.  

I’m not sure how my conclusion will sound but I want to re address some of my arguments and present my readers with a question to think about.  Maybe present a possible solution.  I’m not sure yet.
