The Professional's writing is much shorter than mine. His style is more to the point whereas mine has more explanation. The face that I have a page number requirement adds to this, while (I assume) he does not. Comparing the numbers, our styles appear relatively similar. He writes to clarify a policy of the Obama administration whereas I am trying to persuade people and gain their support.

Yeah - I agree, the page requirements changed my writing style. 3-5 pages id different than writing primarily for a newspaper.
I would've had a hard time defending my arguments so comprehensively in 1/3 the space, though!
Yes Sean it would be hard to defend your arguments, but remember that your topic is in the first stage, and these professionals are writing about things in the maturity phase.
