"It's a Learning Process!"

Writing this opinion editorial was a difficult process for me, but also a process that I think I learned a lot from. It took me a long time to come up with a topic that I actually felt like writing about. I was able to use techniques we learned in class like brainstorming and freewriting to finally grasp what it actually was that I wanted to argue. Once I finally knew what I was going to write about, I started to make an outline of my paper. Although the outline changed from time to time and took on new and different ideas, it was an effective tool in my writing process. Using both pre-writing techniques and an outline I was able to write my paper without going off topic or getting stuck on some obscure tangent (or at least I hope so). Another way that the writing process has been effective for me on this paper was that we were forced to write two rough drafts. This gave me an opportunity to take a break from my paper and come back to it again and again so that I could look at it from different perspectives. From writing this paper I have learned a lot of ways to make the writing process more effective.

Taking a break and doing the whole thing over several times is something I had never done either (even though I was supposed to!) It really helped me, too!

Sean,
Yeah, I know what you mean! I am really glad that we were pretty much forced to do the rough drafts because I probably would not have done them on my own.

I like what you said about being able to focus on a topic. That is really important when writing a paper. No one likes to read something and not know what is going on. I'm sure you did a great job and it was easy to follow.
