Op Ed Reflection

First of all, I would just like to say that I actually enjoyed writing the Op Ed piece. I think I picked a topic I cared about and that made it quite easy to use pathos in my essay. In my first draft I think I spoke too much as if I was above my fellow peers. After learning more about how to keep my audience reading my essay, I knew that I had to change my approach in order to keep them interested. I changed the tone of my essay to sound like an equal with them so that they wouldn't blow off my essay and really listen to what I was trying to say. Connecting with your audience is one of, if not the, most important component of an Op Ed.
I was pleased with my final draft of my essay. I feel it looks and sounds like a real Op Ed. In the beginning of my essay, I started out easy (so that my audience would keep reading) and then gradually by the end I had progressed my argument to be one that was somewhat bold and blunt. The progression was such that hopefully the reader kept on reading and that I held their attention long enough to have them read the end and really be affected by what I wrote.

I agree, the audience is really the most important thing to keep in mind when writing your op ed. Without remembering that you can offend people or confuse them if your ideas do not relate to them.

Sounds like you had a really good experience writing this opinion editorial. That is so great that you enjoyed your topic. I think that is one of the most important aspects to having a good overall piece. You can only pretend to advocate something for so long; it is much more effective to actually be passionate about what you write.
