Sex Slavery in America

This article explains the story of two young women who were brought from the Ukraine in hopes of becoming successful waitresses, but were actually forced to work as sex slaves in a Detroit club. This relates to globalization because sex slavery is something that is a worldwide "business" and affects every country in the world.

Why is this a worldwide business, and how does it continue to prevail?
In what ways is this a danger to women throughout the world?
How does this affect us as citizens of a community and the U.S. nation?
What affects does this kind of business have on the world?
What other business are connected with this type of "work"?
What types of dangers do these victims face throughout the world?

This could make a great issues paper. There is a lot of controversy and many people have differing opinions. It will be interesting to see what route you go on this.

You could also compare the size of the sex business in different countries and discuss what affects this.

This is a very sad topic and would make for a great paper. It really makes people reconsider the "American Dream" and how many people really have a fair chance at accomplishing it. This is a very unfortunate situation that is part of one of the many dark sides of America.

This is a very interesting/emotional topic. It's hard to believe that this goes on in our day. This would make a very interesting paper and you could examine a lot of different aspects of this business.

My roommate's family lives in Europe and we were discussing the red light districts there in Amsterdam and stuff and he was telling us how that "business" is failing there. Just a tie into globalization...even where its legal, it still doesn't work well.
